Nite Funk: "Nite-Funk"

Night-time funk for your favourites-list
The heavenly match that the world deserves, Nite Funk is the union of singer/keyboardist Nite Jewel and jack-of-all-trades Dâm-Funk. The Nite-Funk EP cleverly and seamlessly combine elements of retro and modern in a mix that could best be described as half funky retro disco and half post-modern vocal pop.

The EP's four compositions each provides a look into the everyday doings of a night-life metropolis with haunting synth washes, computerised funk-bass and a soothing night time ambience that few can rival.

"Nite and Funk have refined a feel that could not have been put better into words than by themselves by the combination of their names."

California's duo produces a nightly midnight mover of sultry swaying, each key and note sincere in its simplicity. Through the highly minimalist soundscapes Nite and Funk have refined a feel that could not have been put better into words than by themselves by the combination of their names.

Nite-Funk is the soundtrack for when the party achieves the lowest point of intensity that everyone was hoping for. A modern slow dance synthpop piece, it is everything you could hope for, but without overstaying its welcome. Let Me Be Me stands out as Nite Funk's critical mass, and while the release points to both engaging and relaxing, an entire album could well have been too much without further experimentation into the sound that the duo have found.

8/10
