Extrakt: "Stuck in the Trash"

Sufficiently idolizing Teutonic titans in the cold North
Invoking the sacred names of Destruction, Sodom and Kreator, Extrakt approach from Sweden's small northern university town Umeå, armed to the teeth with thrash clichés and riffs to match the outfit. Their first incarnation, the 2012 demo Stuck in the Trash, is a short and straight to the point bastard creation in the vein of Teutonic thrash legends. Boasting simple titles like Bitch, Extraktified and Stuck in the Trash, you get the picture well before you've even put on the demo.

"The Swedish quartet are a crafty bunch, dual guitars leading to way for haphazard drumming, delirious bass and triple vocals."

At this point the band is pretty young, but it doesn't show very obviously. The Swedish quartet are a crafty bunch, dual guitars leading to way for haphazard drumming, delirious bass and triple vocals. The elements that made early European thrash like Exumer or Artillery stand out are present on Extrakt's first outing as well. The world is flooded by second- and third-rate thrash bands who can't play or compose for shit, but this young Swedish band have it all figured out. Mixing in some of the wildness that made Sodom and Kreator's early days exciting, their brand of thrash metal is exciting and gruesome.

Extraktified gets stuck in your head easily, and Bitch and Stuck in the Trash are fully up to par with any good thrash demos of the last decade. The musicians, young though they may be and sporting aliases like Sodomizer and Persecutor, have an excellent ear for riffing and thusly Stuck in the Trash never gets tedious to listen to. An allround great piece of thrash.

8/10
