Total Desaster: "Warfare Noise"

For when you need your own musical confidence bolstered

When Desaster aren't gruesome enough, there's always Colombia's trio Total Desaster to fulfill your needs. Presumably they took their name from the song by Teutonic thrash titans Destruction, but that's where the similarities end. The Colombian band point to an old kinship between thrash and black metal, a combination that was highly popular in the 80s in South America, for inspiration.

A surefire way to make riffs easily memorable is to make them short, and Total Desaster - formerly unknown as Devastation - seem to subscribe to that notion. Though recalling tracks like Dive Bomber and Hell Attack is an easy task indeed, they have little staying power and don't captivate in the same way as early Hellhammer or Sarcófago did. The slight variations over the same d-beat theme provided by the drums doesn't do much to alleviate the boredom imposed by the guitars and vocals either.

One thing Total Desaster have definitely gotten right is the raw cacophony that extreme bands in the early South American scene had. But with the simple lineup of just one guitarist, a bassist and a drummer the band struggles to maintain that chaotic no-holds-barred feel they're opting for. 

In closing Warfare Noise is a demo with a minimal amount of work put into it. There is very little effort in creating a powerful feeling, and I can't imagine the trio dethroning bands like Deströyer 666 anyone soon.
