Gothic mardi gras, lacking in personality and character
Upon listening you will find Postscrypt lurking in their own dark fantasies in some obscure part of the mind. In this ungodly place the band experiments with a variety of elements, ranging from blast beats, deep baritone vocals, symphonic instrumentation, throaty screams and sections of a somewhat gothic nature. No one element is particularly dominant, making "Foreplay to Auralgasm" a release hard to pinpoint exactly. The frequent gusts of prominent melody and the darkly romantic lyrical concepts that lie at the core of Postscrypt's musical universe tends to pull them toward an 80s gothic vibe, put they never fully submerge in those waters.
The individual efforts of the bandmembers are adequate, but in concert their endeavors rarely form that elusive beautiful shape that their compositions go for. On a superficial level it feels as though each member is going in his or her own direction, and musically, as a collective, their plans never come into fruition. The constant pulling into different directions makes for a bizarre but impactless impression, failing to create the desired atmosphere.

The quartet have their moments. "Foreplay to Auralgasm", however powerless in presence, isn't inherently boring, but never fully exceeds that lifeless sound that keeps it teetering on the brink of musical climax. The group, try as they might, builds atmosphere and expectations, only to fall short on the long run with tracks constantly collapsing in on themselves whenever there's an idea forming. There are no choruses to look forward to, no memorable riffs or powerful melodies to make an impact. Only individual sections that are just... there.
Conclusively Postscrypt's debut demo remains an uninteresting, although honest, effort. The band's repertoire, from the demo's standpoint, seems to be limited to mellow and low-tempo metal-rock with little going on other than an occassional riff or excentric vocal passage. Recalling acts like The Sisters of Mercy in their more experimental stages, or perhaps Type O Negative, their EP feels mostly like a watered down version of that.
