Electric Moon: "Flaming Lake"
Putting the 'space' in space rock
When dealing with albums from Sulatron Records, you know there's always a pretty good chance that it'll be some real top shelf fuzz-tastic psychedelia. Though Electric Moon is still a relatively new band - they formed in 2009 - they were quick to find their sound and, by extension, their niche in the global music scene.

Incarceration: "Sacrifice"
The apex predator of death metal
Having garnered much praise through numerous reviews, the Brazilian/German death-thrashers Incarceration are now more or less a household name within certain circles of death. I had the extreme pleasure of witnessing their performance at the last edition of the Danish death metal festival, Kill-Town Death Fest, where they played the smallest stage, Dødsmaskinen. Witnessing their savage performance seemed like a privilege in itself, especially with frontman Daniel sporting his trademark grin throughout the show in front of a packed house.

Ancst: "The Humane Condition"
Exceptionally well-crafted but for a few missteps
Ancst are exceptionally productive, having produced several releases every year since their creation in 2012. More often than not this is an indicator of the shallowness of a group's efforts, where quantity weighs heavier than quality, and productivity holds a seat above creativity and originality. A shame it is that this goes especially for black metal bands.

Disco Rundown: Blind Guardian
Blind Guardian - A Tale of Power and Speed
Evolving from the speed metal band Lucifer's Heritage in 1986, Blind Guardian have been turning heads on the international power metal scene ever since. With ten full length albums and a slew of other releases in their back catalogue, by 2015 they're a heavy metal mainstay. Almost universally acclaimed, every album shows a band still ready for more with fresh ideas and hard-hitting compositions.

Belfegore: "Belfegore"
Glimmering in the darkness of the mid-eighties
Throughout the gothic rock scene's height of popularity in the 80s Belfegore, a three-piece from Germany, stands out now as one of the seemingly forgotten gems, and a testament to the era's sound outside of the UK. Belfegore's career was short-lived, however, and in the few years they were active they produced only a few releases, most notable of which is arguably their self-titled album from 1984. Nowadays the album is widely available, partially because of Elektra's wide production and distribution of the album back then.

Hell Preachers Inc.: "Supreme Psychedelic Underground"
The mysterious psych gem that time forgot
This one is a real music curiosity. The mythos surrounding it is quite substantial, probably playing a vital role in its now cult status. The original vinyl release by the label Europa warrants prices up to €65 depending on quality. Shrouded in mystery, it all starts out with the lack of information on the album. No mention of the bandmembers, no inlay, no country of origin or release year (though some point to 1968 as a possible year of release). Everything from the colourful cover art and name to the song titles are pretty standard mainstays in late sixties psychedelic rock bands. It is speculated that the band itself never really was that - a band. But rather that Hell Preachers Inc. was a constructed entity meant to cash in on the commercial success that the psychedelic vibes of harder rock bands were enjoying at the time.

Endometritis: "Dehiscent Purulent Abdominal Viscera"
Accomplished high-performance death metal engine
There's something stirring in Germany. The deep rumblings, almost like an earthquake, are the uranium-heavy chugging slams and pounding double kick drums of Endometritis, the epicentre of German brutal death metal. All over the world talented slamming brutal death metal bands have been turning up at a steady pace, and together with Encephalopathy, Endometritis are at the forefront of the German brigade.

Encephalopathy: "Promo EP 2011"
Slow-moving death metal slugathon with heart and guts
Whenever a genre or style has a surge in popularity, the mediocre newly started bands start pouring forth like rednecks to a hoedown. But every wave has its own stars and shining gems as well, and Encephalopathy is one such gem.

Electric Moon: "Theory of Mind"
A psychedelic, ever-transforming Rorschach-test
For those unfamiliar with Electric Moon, they're a German trio founded in 2009 by bassist and painter Komet Lulu, prominent Sulatron label boss, guitarist and acid-kraut practitioner Sula Bassana and drummer Pablo Carneval. Carneval was later replaced by Marcus Schnitzler. Though Sula has had a lengthy career in various psych bands, Electric Moon is the newest outlet for his ramblings. Electric Moon forms a unified front of modern and underground psychedelic bands together with the likes of Ufomammut, Yuri Gagarin, Øresund Space Collective and Baby Woodrose.
