Short and rough, a violent riot in its own right
Being a thrashy death metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden, you'd expect Manifestor to be just another one of your average run of the mill bands with fuzzed out guitars, trashy bass, bland vocals and programmed drums. After all, it's not that much of a stretch of imagination. But what Hatetriot and Asbest, the two sick brains behind the band, have created is a bit more surprising.
"...drums pound away like police batons against riot shields through a mosh of angry guitar riffs,"
Before the release of the Old Monster demo in 2012, the duo had tried their hand at metal with a demo in 2010. Manifestor in itself isn't some highly innovative band, not at all, but they aren't pretentious either. At the very least they are going against the current of today's tribute trends, but instead their style bears resemblence to thrashing death metal with hints of grindcore. The drums pound away like police batons against riot shields through a mosh of angry guitar riffs, making the demo both heavy, hard hitting and fast.
There's nothing virtuosic about the way they handle their instruments, but the no-holds-barred aggression introduces ample amounts of ruthlessness to the mix. Authentic and rough around the edges, each track cuts like a rusty prison shiv. Manifestor never linger on any one part before swiftly moving on to the next beating in one fell swoop. With no regard for current trends, the duo's brutal delivery takes the prize.
